American scientists have analyzed the transmission statistics of the new coronavirus infection

They found that a person is most likely to get infected at home if a family member already has the coronavirus.

The results of the study were published in the journal JAMA Network Open.

Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of articles published in the past year that mentioned cases of secondary transmission of COVID-19 when sick people became infected at home.

The level of risk of secondary transmission is affected by factors such as the time that has passed since the initial infection, the duration and proximity of contacts, and the degree of symptomatology at first exposure.

Domestic infection cases were reported to be more common in adults, compared to children - 28.3 and 16.8 percent, respectively, and in spouses, compared to people just living under one roof - 37.8 and 17.8 percent.

The average rate of secondary infection, in two-person cohabitation, is significantly higher than in households with three or more residents - 41.5 and 22.8 percent, respectively.

Scientists are confident that without changing people's daily behavior, it is unlikely that the pandemic will be stopped quickly.
