In smokers who have stopped smoking and switched to IQOS, tartar formation is reduced and bad breath from cigarettes disappears. This is what Romanian dentist Prof. Dr. Michaela Raescu shares in his study with patients who switched to the IQOS tobacco heating device, presented at the World Nicotine Forum in Warsaw.

In the study conducted with two groups of patients - smokers of ordinary cigarettes and those who stopped smoking and switched to the device with tobacco heating, Prof. Dr. Raescu found that the bad breath disappeared in the latter from cigarettes compared to continued smokers. Only 6 to 9 months after quitting smoking and switching to IQOS, the formation of less tartar is observed, and its cleaning is easy and painless, adds the dentist.

In the study, which lasted 9 months, 2 groups of patients were included - 15 people who stopped smoking for half a year and switched to the IQOS device and 5 who continued to smoke. All studied patients smoked at least 1 pack of cigarettes per day in the last 5 years.

Cleaning tartar is usually a painful procedure for smokers, as they often suffer from inflammation of the gums, gingivitis, periodontitis, drying of the oral mucosa, due to the greater formation of dental plaque and, accordingly, tartar, which leads to gum damage and even loose teeth.

In contrast, IQOS switch patients showed improvement in oral he alth 6 to 9 months after the initial decalcification, and decalcification became much easier and painless compared to of smokers, says Dr. Raescu. The reason for this is that both when stopping smoking completely and when switching to IQOS, the cleaning function of saliva - the natural protector of the oral mucosa - is improved, which reduces the risk of tooth decay.

After completing the study after 9 months, the patients who switched to IQOS said they were satisfied and felt an improvement in their oral he alth, adds the Romanian dentist.

Another effect after quitting smoking or switching to IQOS is improved mucosal dewing. However, this often leads to bleeding gums if initial cleaning or treatment of previous he alth conditions caused by smoking is not done. The advice to such patients is to visit their dentist for tartar cleaning or possible treatment.
