In less than two weeks, successive transplants took place. Since the beginning of the year, there are already thirteen donor situations. The latter gives a new chance for life to three patients.

On the night of September 1, doctors from the Medical Academy found out that in Varna in the hospital "St. Marina” has a brain dead woman. Immediately, the military plane "Spartan" flies to the sea capital to transport the organs.

Teams from "Alexandrovska" and VMA led by Dr. Ivan Vasilevski traveled to the city and back to perform the interventions.

The Ministry of Defense announced that the liver transplant was performed at the Medical Academy by the team of Prof. Nikola Vladov, head of the Clinic for Liver, Pancreatic and Transplantation Surgery.

Meanwhile, kidney transplants were performed at Alexandrovska Hospital by the team of the head of the Urology Clinic, Prof. Petar Simeonov. The recipients are a 46-year-old woman from Karlovo and a 62-year-old man from Sofia.

The family of the 56-year-old woman makes the difficult decision to donate both kidneys and the liver. This is how they save the lives of three people. One of them is a 50-year-old man with end-stage liver cirrhosis.

“The patient has been waiting for several months, he is in the end stage of his liver disease, with a high melting point - this is a table according to which we calculate the risk to his life. He was transplanted just in time before he fell into severe decompensation – the odds were on his side.

The transplant lasted about 4-5 hours. After the intervention, the 50-year-old transplanted person was placed in the intensive care unit, is in contact and is breathing on his own. If he begins to recover quickly, he can be discharged within ten days , said Prof. Nikola Vladov.

Since the beginning of the year a total of 47 transplants were performed in our country.
