Panic attacks hit Bulgarians en masse, psychologists report to "Trud". People of active age become victims of these conditions, but the 30-40 year olds are the most affected.

"It can be said that there is a pandemic of anxiety among Bulgarians," psychotherapist Orlin Baev told the newspaper. He explained that psychologists' offices are full of patients suffering from anxiety.

According to specialists, they are mainly caused by fear of abandonment, loneliness, failure, humiliation, injustice. A hectic and stressful lifestyle also triggers such conditions.

“In most cases, panic attacks occur after an accumulation of nerves, negative emotions and conflicts. Problems in the family or work also lead to similar conditions, said psychologist Diana Ginova. Victims of anxiety think they are in a trap from which they cannot escape.

“I have been having panic attacks for two years. When I'm in this state, I think I'm going to die and I go to the nearest hospital, said 28-year-old Marijana. She sees a psychologist to deal with her anxiety, but admits she finds it very difficult. At first they appeared every other day, then they became rarer.

The attack can last from 15 seconds to 25 minutes. Symptoms are palpitations, suffocation, trembling of the limbs, sweating of the hands, hot and cold flushes, dizziness, palpitations, nervousness and ringing in the ears. Most of the time, anxiety disorders are treated with therapies and medications.

The Ministry of He alth has developed a project by which 2,000 general practitioners from all over the country will be trained to recognize anxiety and depression at an early stage.
