Pia Maria Sorensen was born in Copenhagen. When he was 17 years old, he traveled to Paris to see his girlfriend, who was a model. At the same time, Salvador Dalí had a casting for models, in which Pia's friend was invited to participate and took her with him. 200 beautiful models from all over the world took part in the casting. Salvador Dali arrived, walked around the models and stopped in front of Pia. He told her: "I want to draw you", but she replied: "I'm not a model, my girlfriend is". However, he told her: "I don't care. I want to draw you. You look like an angel.” So Pia spent the next 2 months working with Salvador Dali. Every day they met for lunch, talked about the universe and God, about the meaning of life. After eating, Salvador Dali worked on the painting for only 1 hour a day

This is also the beginning of her career as a model. The next 14 years she lived in Milan, Rome, Paris, London and New York, working for the biggest and most famous designers, photographers and fashion magazines (VOGUE, GQ, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar and many others).

Then he worked in Copenhagen as a sales manager for a famous fashion brand. In 6 months, Pia doubled the turnover of the company and turned out to be much more successful at work than she expected. So she decides to stop her modeling career while she's still at the top.

Working 12-15 hours a day and at the same time being a single mother to her young son, Pia is looking for something to relieve her stress. An acquaintance of hers who had learned the amazing breathing techniques in the Art of Living program told her about them. 6 months later, she completed the training course and immediately discovered the benefits of the methods for herself. Pia has been teaching breathing techniques for coping with stress for 16 years. Recently, she was in Bulgaria for the second time for a one-week preliminary training of instructors in the "Art of Living" programs. This is what the smiling and charming Pia shared especially for "Doctor" magazine.

Pia, what has changed in your life the program created by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, "The Art of Living"?

- Many things changed. At first I had more energy for my work. I was working as a sales manager for a designer fashion company. I was working 12-15 hours a day, raising my son alone, it was a very stressful and stressful life. I started practicing the breathing exercises and found that I had much more energy, more calmness and peace within me. I could be a much better mother and at the same time do my job even more successfully. These were the first changes I experienced.

Afterwards I realized that this is how I connected with my true nature, I feel happier, calm, relaxed and at peace, natural. Working for 14 years as an international model, including for Salvador Dali, it was all about looks. It was interesting work, but very superficial. When I discovered the combination of yoga, meditation and breathing exercises, I got in touch with my own nature, which is the same for all of us - a sense of joy and peace. Life has become more beautiful, not only on the outside, but also on the inside.

I decided to quit my job as a manager even though I was extremely successful and making a lot of money. I saw that if I stayed in this company, I would lose my self-respect. I quit my job, but I started to feel a strong fear of life. After so many years of success and prosperity, when I stayed at home, I started to feel insecure, I didn't know how to deal with life's challenges. I didn't sleep well, I woke up screaming in the morning. I was also worried about whether I would be able to take good care of my son.

Why did you get relegated? in such a crisis

- Then I had stopped practicing my breathing exercises. I used to do them for my job, to have more energy. And when I left, I stopped doing them, I decided that I didn't need them right now. I saw my friend who reminded me that it is good to do my breathing exercises. Within a few weeks I was completely out of this state and

became very successful again

I decided to become an instructor in the "Art of Living" program because I want to help and give this knowledge to more people, especially when they are in crisis in their personal lives.

Breathing exercises and meditation are done every day, and when there is fear in a person, it is good to do it twice a day. The breathing techniques are for half an hour, although if one wants to do more good for oneself, it is good to combine them with some yoga exercises. Breathing techniques activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Mind and breath are connected. Whenever there is a certain emotion, the breathing also changes. Many people breathe shallowly, shallowly, not deeply, all the way from the stomach. It is good to be aware of breathing throughout the day and to be deeper, not just to practice it during breathing practices. However, they will naturally help one become aware of one's breathing and change it. This will make you feel much better. Of course, life's challenges don't stop, it's part of our journey, but when we have more energy, it's easier to deal with them. Breathing is the main source of energy. When we do breathing exercises, we can quickly raise our energy level, and we feel much happier.

With this program I made a huge change in my life and I am very grateful and happy about it. I teach courses for all levels in the program, helping so many people today.

The first participant in my course was a member of the European Parliament. My second course was from a group of priests from the National Christian Church of Denmark.

I also teach stressed women,

with depression and anxiety, refugees with PTSD and many more. I am currently working on an even larger academic research project with the South Danish Univesity of Denmark advising the Danish government on what new he alth and stress management programs to introduce into the country's National He alth Programme.

Tell us more about your program for abused or depressed women?

- Yes, it gives amazing results. Many of these women have not worked for years, have tried various ways to treat themselves - psychologists, therapy, painkillers. With breathing exercises combined with yoga and knowing how to deal with our mind, 83% of these women in 6 weeks started working again and got back to their lives.

I have made the program for depressed women longer, as due to their condition they will not have the inner strength to do the exercises at home right now. You have to support them, help them get used to doing their exercises at home. Researchers say it takes between 40 and 90 days to create the new patterns of behavior and perception in the brain.

The course for depressed women is not yet held in Bulgaria, but I have plans to train instructors here and support such a project in your country.

How exactly does breathing help overcome fears, phobias, psychoses, etc.?

- It helps because, as I mentioned, breath and mind are connected. By breathing deeply, we activate the nervous system and connect to that part of ourselves where there is always peace. When we are calm, we make much better decisions.

Cells in our body live on 90% oxygen. When we practice breathing exercises, much more oxygen is absorbed by our body. This is how our cells are kept younger. Breathing techniques also very quickly increase the capacity of our lungs, and this allows for better cleansing of the body. More than 200 toxins are removed from the body through breathing. I.e. by breathing deeply, we increase lung capacity, have more energy and clear more toxins. In addition, these techniques help to quit smoking. I am the living example of this, I used to smoke a lot. Of course it wasn't easy, but it worked.

I also have people with cancer where breathing techniques help improve their condition while undergoing chemotherapy. I'm not saying it will cure them, but that it will make them feel better and help them heal more successfully.

Tell me about an incident that you will not forget…

- Oh, for these years they are so many. I think of a young woman who had a brain tumor. Because of a lot of chemotherapy, she couldn't walk. He used 2 crutches. In 9 days of breathing practices, he started walking without crutches and felt better. Another woman had experienced an accident. She was hit by a car, had whiplash on her head, and because of this she suffered from severe headaches every day. He took 8 painkillers in 12 and a half years. He also suffered from depression, fears, apart from being in pain all the time. During the course the headache disappeared, she couldn't believe it.

What advice would you give women to have better he alth?

- Eat fresh food and vegetables every day, drink plenty of water. Sleep well, the hours we sleep before midnight, the body regenerates twice as much. Do something every day that makes you feel good - you can just dance at home to your favorite music, see a friend, buy something that will make you happy, etc.n. Of course, do breathing exercises every day - there's evidence that they improve blood pressure, lower cholesterol and the stress hormone cortisol.
