Harmful habits, such as smoking, complete abstinence from alcohol (or overdoing it), insufficient physical activity and the consumption of few fruits and vegetables significantly impair memory and thinking ability.

According to American scientists, people with the listed harmful habits think at least 3 times worse and suffer from memory disorders 2 times more often than people with less harmful habits. A serious study was conducted in three stages, with the same people over a period of several years. Taking age, sex, social and economic status into account, the scientists came to the conclusion that the memory deteriorates most noticeably in smokers.

They suffer more often from serious speech disorders, have poor mathematical thinking and their ability to reason gradually decreases. The same problems haunt people who have completely given up the use of alcohol and eat few fruits and vegetables. The golden mean, according to French scientists, is up to 14 glasses of low-alcohol drinks (preferably red wine) per week and more than 2 vegetable and fruit meals per day. The risk of cognitive impairment is greatest in men and women over 50 who lead a sedentary lifestyle.
