A resident of Wales told how his toes fell off after a serious illness for several years..
In the spring of 2018, 61-year-old Simon Charlesworth was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and sepsis. The man was in an induced coma for ten days and then spent another four weeks in intensive care.
During the coma, due to poor blood supply to the extremities, the tissues of his toes began to die. He was offered amputation, but the man refused.
The first finger turned black and fell off in August 2018, four months after returning from the hospital. This happened when Charlesworth rubbed it with antiseptic to stop the infection from spreading. According to him, he didn't even feel pain.
Over the next two years, the man's remaining fingers fell off one by one. "My wife refused to sleep in the same bed with me because she didn't want to wake up to a dead finger," he says.
Some fingers remained in my hand when I rubbed them with antiseptic lotion. Others are in bed. The worst was when they fell during a bath. You can imagine what it would be like to put on socks in the morning and think, “There must have been dirt here before.
