A 23-year study by world-renowned scientists found that total teetotalers are much more at risk of serious illness than people who consume alcohol

The research was conducted by experts from France and Great Britain, and more than 9,000 Britons who were between 35 and 55 years old in 1985 took part in it.

Specialists from the French National Institute of He alth and Medical Research and their colleagues from University College London concluded that 397 of the participants developed dementia, with the average age of onset of the disease being 76 years.

Analysis data showed that senile dementia progresses exclusively among persons who have completely given up the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Scientists are of the opinion that up to 140 grams of pure alcohol per week protects the brain and prevents dementia.

At the same time, however, even this minimal amount increases the risk of tumors and liver damage.

Researchers have found that excessive alcohol consumption also increases the likelihood of dementia in old age.
