The doctor can understand by the type of swelling which organs should be paid attention to first. If the patient reports that facial swelling appears in the morning, quickly spreads down to the legs, and by evening decreases or disappears completely, then kidney problems may be suspected.

As a rule, the swollen tissue is pale, puffy, and for a long time (more than a few minutes) a trace of finger pressure remains on it. In no case should you take a diuretic yourself. Contact a specialist as soon as possible.

Cardiac Edema

They appear most often in the late afternoon. They are symmetrical: they affect the toes and hands on both sides. Edema may also be present in the abdomen, lower back and genitals. This type of edema is characterized by the fact that it is often accompanied by shortness of breath, bluish tint of the lips, swelling of the neck veins.

Hepatic edema

Swellings provoked by disturbances in the work of the liver also appear in the abdominal area. Vascular webs are clearly visible on the skin, and the skin itself turns yellow and itches. They can signal very serious diseases - hepatitis, cirrhosis and cancer. If the itching is accompanied by redness, then it is most likely an allergic reaction.

Swelling can also appear as a result of many other reasons that only a doctor can understand. For example, a common cause of edema is varicose disease, in which the valves are damaged and the tone of the veins decreases. The swelling usually occurs on one leg.

Those who suffer from hypothyroidism - insufficient production of hormones by the thyroid gland - often go away. With this hormonal imbalance, fluid accumulates in the intercellular space and a person, without overeating, gains weight. Edema usually affects not only the face but also the whole body.

But in many people, swelling, especially in the legs, is still not associated with any pathology. Their appearance is often provoked by sedentary or standing work, tight shoes, too hot weather and poorly regulated water drinking regime. In women, the cause of edema is critical days and pregnancy. In such cases, contrast baths will help tired legs recover faster. It is not difficult to apply them.

In one container pour lukewarm water - about 15 degrees, in the other - hot: 38-39 degrees. Immerse your feet up to the level of the ankles first in warm water for three minutes and then for 10 seconds in cold water. And so several times. The procedure should end with a dip in the cold water. Dry the feet with a soft towel, especially carefully - the skin between the toes.
